Now we are down to less than a month before the rally and we hope you are as excited as we all are!
The meal will be held at the Croydon Lodge (useful for those who are staying there). We will be there from around 4pm for a social get together and catch up. Hope to see you there. Attached to this email is the menu. Also attached is the disclaimer that can be signed and sent back before the rally to shorten the process at the start on Friday.
A few clarifications/updates:
The Nelson Car Museum has changed the car in the window from the red one to a white one. They have said that it should still be there when we run the rally, but in case it has changed the photo requirement for that checkpoint is in front of the building with whatever car is in the main window in the background.
Tuhawaiki Point CP, sign is gone. If going here try and do your best to get a photo of the frame as depicted below.

A few clarifications/updates:
- Make sure you have a check over the checkpoint information to make sure you are sure of the photo requirements at each checkpoint.
- Some confusing phrasing was used when describing the collection of the bonuses e.g."..must be collected in order to claim this bonus." Better would have been to say "… must be collected for you to claim this bonus." In short the order of checkpoint collection doesn’t matter, when you submit your photos we will check that you have all of them to get the bonus and the order they are collected in won't matter (except the start and finish ones!)
- If you are using a GPS device to record your distance then you also need to provide a gpx to accompany it to ensure that the photos of the GPS distance represent the entire journey. As some GPS units struggle with tracking longer distances (looking at you ZumoXT) we are happy if the gpx track is recorded from another device eg phone or other GPS recorder. If the gpx track is not provided then you will not be eligible to achieve the Twisting Throttle Award - The ultimate award proving that you rode the challenge to the highest standard.
- All checkpoints collected will be added to your final tally, remember that you must achieve at least one award, (The Driver, The Pilot, The Captain or the Engineer) that will require 10 compulsory stops. You are able to collect checkpoints from any other theme or award.
- If you are taking photos as a group - then all bikes and tee-shirts need to be in the photo. Then after the rally you fill in one ride form with all the checkpoints you went to and all the riders with you.
- The app this year cannot be used to take photos or submit the final form. It can be used as a reference on the road and then as an aid to help you fill out the electronic form that will be sent to you on Sunday evening after the rally. You will have two weeks to complete this form and upload your photos to your online link.
- In your registration confirmation email you would have received a link to a Google drive folder. Make sure that you are able to put the photos taken during the rally in there. A good way to check this is to upload a photo of your bike into the folder to check that it works. Any problems let us know and we can walk you through sorting it.
- Bonus challenges are optional. You can do them or not as it fits with your riding plan. To get the bonus points for a particular bonus, you have to complete all the checkpoints in that bonus.
- Checkpoints get the points only once. So for example Burt Munro gets you 100 points and 1 of the checkpoints for the Memorial bonus and 1 of the checkpoints for the Driver award.
